THINGS TO SEE AND DO IN HUMBOLDT, Tennessee

The townspeople of Humboldt were some of the most welcoming people we have ever met. We wouldn’t make it 20 feet without someone saying hello or being waved over to talk about where we were from and what we did! We had so many amazing experiences from treating our inner children at the Kandy Bank to seeing exotic creatures at the Safari Park!

Shopping On Main– Like most small towns, Main Street is where it all happens. There are a few blocks of lovely shops, a candy shop, restaurants, a boutique, and other fun shops.

  • Main Boutique– Get the latest lady’s fashions, accessories, and home decor at the Main Boutique. Tell Dez I said HI!
  • Kandy Bank – Relive joyous childhood memories in candy land at Kandy Bank. Once a historic bank, this cotton-candy pink building is a natural candy shop. CLICK HERE to watch owners Scott and Kelli Keena talk about how creating Kandy Bank was their dream! Scroll to their episode on our podcast and watch or listen from your favorite app. Be sure to visit the original bank vault, full of fun surprises.

Humboldt Plaza 3– Humboldt Plaza 3 is a 1940s movie theater experience with the latest sound and seating comforts.

West Tennessee Regional Art Center– An extensive worldly collection of art to rival any major city. It is “the only museum with a permanent fine art collection between Nashville and Memphis”.

Companion Gallery & East Mitchell Clay– Housing clay art from around the nation, for sale and viewing, the Companion Gallery & East Mitchell Clay also offers beginner classes. Their amazing staff brings play, inspiration, and creativity.

Tennessee Safari Drive-In Theatre– Check the drive-in schedule at the Tennessee Safari Drive-In Theatre. They offer a family friendly retro-experience.

Tennessee Safari Park– Go on safari and spot the wild animals prowling along the 5.5 miles of winding roads of the Tennessee Safari Park.

Crown Winery– The name of the Crown Winery was inspired by the crown of Rita Howard, the former Miss Tennessee. Rita established the winery, which is now under new ownership and offers 7 varieties of grapes, including the Sangiovese from Tuscany. The tasting room is in a Tuscan style villa with outdoor seating, perfect for their outdoor music events.

Tom & O. E. Stigall Ethic Library and History Museum– The story of the fight for equality in this small town is told throughout multiple exhibits, news articles, images, and artifacts. Local church leaders were at the forefront of the movement and often jailed, arrested, and are largely responsible for the changes in Humboldt. Make an appointment to tour the Tom & O. E. Stigall Ethic Library and History Museum to learn about the heroes and activists of this small town, risking their lives to make a difference.

PLACES TO EAT IN Humbodlt, Tennessee

Eating out in Humboldt is a joy! The monstrous cinnamon rolls and whipped cream atop their waffles at The Coffee Shop are what dreams are made of. The fall-off-the-bone BBQ at Sam’s was just so good! The Crown Winery also serves pizza on some nights, call for a reservation.

The Coffee Shop– Owners Guy and Tammy Causey live their dream daily at The Coffee Shop, as they share their strength and faith serving their community and inspiring conversation over coffee and good food. You must try their waffles!

Milano’s Pizza  Real veggies on their crunchy crust pizza, lunch at Milano’s Pizza made me so happy!

Sam’s Bar-B-Q – Dubbed the best Bar-B-Q this side of Memphis, the success of Sam’s Bar-B-Q is a result of Sam’s expertise smoking pork with wood, fire and smoke since 1940. The restaurant is now handed off to his daughter continuing her father’s legacy.

Wall Street Grill – The Wall Street Grill serves American fare with a friendly staff.

places to stay in Humbodlt, Tennessee

If you’re looking for a place to slow down, listen to crickets instead of cars, and breathe fresh air, Humboldt is ready to help you exhale.

Serenity Country Cottage Farm House– There are no words to describe what Serenity Country Cottage Farm House means to me. It’s a spacious, beautifully decorated house, with a heavenly porch overlooking a picture-perfect horse pasture. I hope you’re lucky enough to watch a sunset from the swing with the resident dog at your feet, resident cat(s) in your lap while the porch curtains blow in the breeze. That’s the moment you’ll know you’re really on vacation.

Serenity Cottage Suite @ Serenity Horse Farm– The Serenity Cottage is a petite but spacious room, on the same grounds as the Serenity Country Cottage. This room has an ensuite bathroom perfect for a quick getaway. This cottage suite has its own fire pit. The wooded front and back offers a yoga tree house, and an old-fashioned swing hanging from a tree.

Magnolia Manor & Chapel– Built in 1895 as a church, the Magnolia Manor & Chapel was recently restored into unique accommodations with fine touches and hospitality. The outdoor private courtyard is a beautiful place to read a book, meditate, or enjoy sweet treats from the Kandy Bank candy store nearby. Fireplaces, spa showers, and other luxury amenities make this the ultimate romantic getaway.

BEST IN SHOW

AccommodationSerenity Country Cottage Farm House – There is not enough I can say about our 1 month stay at Serenity Cottage Farm House through Airbnb, in Humboldt, TN, other than magical! The porch is a haven of serenity and peace, swaying on the swing snuggling with the farm cat with the farm dog laying at my feet, eating at the dining table on matching dishes with the curtains blowing in the breeze, overlooking the horses grazing in the front pasture as the sun shines golden rays across the grasses and through the trees, setting into a sea of pink, purple and orange. It was a place I healed, found relaxation, snuggles, and space. Inside, it was roomy and clean. The bed was like no other I’ve slept in, enveloping me each night into luxurious softness. We never turned on the TV because what awaited outside each night at sunset was far more interesting, though the TV was a very nice size. I am most grateful for the host’s generosity and kindness. Christine is changing the world one person at a time with her presence and compassion.

Food Sam’s Bar-B-Q – Recently featured in Southern Living and Garden and Gun, Sam’s Bar-B-Q is exceptional. I do have to say that we were regulars at The Coffee Shop on Main Street! Gregg still talks about their cinnamon rolls.

Things to Do – Main Street is the place to be as the town comes alive with businesses moving in and into larger spaces. Stop by Main Boutique (tell DeS I said Hi!) for all of your fashion desires, the Kandy Bank to relive joyous childhood memories, and the Humboldt Plaza 3 Movie Theatre for a retro-experience. Stop in at the library of records to see Humboldt historical memorabilia, a blast from the past!
